Home Care Assistance was founded in 2002 by Certified Care Managers and PhD Clinical Psychologists. Our goal has always been to offer the highest standard of care for our clients and we are proud to have made a difference in the lives of thousands of seniors and their families.

Our client care managers are on call 24 hours a day for client needs and our caregivers are all professionally trained and personally committed.

Innovative programs such as the Balanced Care Method™, a holistic approach to healthy aging, and the Cognitive Therapeutics Method™, a cognitive stimulation program designed to promote brain health, are proprietary tools we have developed to help us change the way the world ages.

Most seniors would prefer to age in their own homes

With over 4,000 people turning 85 every day, Senior Home Care is currently one of the fastest growing industries.  According to AARP, 9 in 10 seniors would prefer to age in their own home.

Home Care Assistance helps older adults age gracefully and independently in the comfort of their home, with trained, professional caregivers providing premier home care services. By professionalizing the in-home care industry, Home Care Assistance is able to offer peace of mind for older adults and their families, while providing resources to help support our growing senior population at large.

The Balanced Care Method™

There is no single explanation for how and why some people live so many healthier and more active years than others. But there is a place where more people live longer and healthier than any other place on earth: Okinawa, Japan. And recently, scientists have been studying this group of seniors to see if we could learn to live a longer and more productive life. Home Care Assistance has developed a revolutionary and proprietary approach to senior care based on these centenarian studies.

The Balanced Care Method™ is based on studies of the extraordinarily long-lived elders in the Okinawa region of Japan. Life spans of over 100 years are not unusual in Okinawa. More important, people in their 70s, 80s and beyond enjoy incredible good health and independence. Excellent physical health, mental awareness, and inner calm are common among the studied elders The Balanced Care Method™ seeks to capture some of the lifestyle factors that go towards creating such long-lived and healthy people. Its philosophy can be summed up in two words: moderation and variety.

Components of Balanced Care Training include:

  • Healthy Diet
  • Physical Activity
  • Sharp Minds
  • Social Ties
  • Calmness and Purpose

The Balanced Care Method™ is an evidence-based program built on studies that demonstrate that only one-third of our healthy longevity is based on genetics and two-thirds on lifestyle factors within our control.

Home Care Assistance caregivers throughout North America are trained in the Method, offering the first senior care solution with an emphasis on balance and longevity. By working with specific lifestyle behaviors, Home Care Assistance caregivers extend and enhance the lives of seniors, helping them live longer, happier, more balanced lives.

About Our Staff

Bob Scott – Owner

I am very fortunate to have had some amazing people in my life. My grandfathers on both sides of my family were huge inspirations to me. They taught me the values that I live by, as well as the values I strive to teach my children every day. In their youth, they both made a huge impact on the world around them. One was a war hero, the other an entertainer, and their legacies live on today.

As strong as they were in their prime, once they entered their twilight years, these proud men needed help for everyday tasks. Growing up, my grandmother and grandfather lived with us. At the time, what I didn’t understand, was that my parents were acting as their caregivers. I didn’t see it as that because throughout the entire process, they were treated with the respect and dignity that they so deserved from their children. It is not easy to ask for help, and it is not easy to help without constant thanks. I never comprehended this until recently, when I took on the same role my parents did before me, and am now caring for my mother and father.

The role of a caregiver is not that of a babysitter, and should not be treated that way. Being a caregiver is exactly what the name implies; giving care, unconditionally, respectfully, and at times, discreetly. It is the understanding that the seniors of today were the pioneers of yesterday, and the inspiration of tomorrow, and they should be treated as such!

As I’ve navigated my own career path, I have held various positions in management and operations. Throughout this journey, I have learned that I truly love working with people, and that you are only as strong as the team you have around you. Through Home Care Assistance Jersey Shore, I have the opportunity to train and work with amazing people, as well as to create a compassionate and unified family of caregivers that is able to provide a network of support for clients and families when they need it most.

As the co-owner and operator of Home Care Assistance Jersey Shore, I have made it my mission to allow the proud and strong-minded seniors of today to spend the rest of their years at home, receiving enrichment through our Balanced Care Program, all the while remembering that these individuals were the foundation and inspiration for those of us that are now called upon to make sure that our parents get the same quality of love and care in their senior years that they deserve.

Dan Richmond – Owner

In July of 2013, I received the devastating news that no child ever wants to hear – that my mom had been diagnosed with Stage Four Glioblastoma. In her case, this was a non-operable, terminal form of brain cancer.

At the time of her diagnosis, my siblings and I immediately knew that we would need help to care for our mom. One thing was certain though: we wanted to provide her with the best possible care, as well as to make sure she was surrounded by love and compassion during her remaining months of life. It was during this period of my life that the seeds of Home Care Assistance Jersey Shore were planted within my mind.

For the next six months, my siblings and I would interview, work with, and bring into the family almost a dozen caregivers. Out of this group of home health aides, only two would ultimately provide the level of service and caring that we felt our mom deserved. Sadly, for most of those caregivers, it was just “a job,” and for others, they seemed to be glorified babysitters.

It was then that I realized, along with my business partner, Bob, that seniors and loved ones are deserving of so much more. The rest, as they say, “is history!” Bob and I reached out to Home Care Assistance, and found EXACTLY what we were looking for: a company that truly cares more about bettering the QUALITY of the lives of seniors, than to simply babysit those in need.

By incorporating company programs, such as our Balanced Care Method, (which emphasizes healthy nutrition, physical and mental exercise, social ties, calmness and purpose), as well as the Cognitive Therapeutics Method (which is Home Care Assistance’s own proprietary program that promotes brain health and mental/memory stimulation through activities), Bob and I found the tools to fulfill our mission: to help seniors enjoy a quality of life that is unmatched by any other home care company, and to do our part in Changing the Way the World Ages.
